The Phidrums snare drum is the child of a passion, a challenge and an idea. A passion for pure sound, like the original sound produced by skins and shell. A challenge posed by ordinary snare drums that produce unwanted resonances and metallic auras. An idea based on the new conception of a drum with no screws or borings, since the lugs are incorporated on the outside of the shell, thus eliminating all obstacles and interference with the purity of the sound. The result is a new generation of snare drums, different from all the others in form and performance, capable of producing an absolutely unique, well-defined, perfectly balanced and personal sound. The batter head produces the same identical sound at all points around the center, with a linear, clear and precise progression. Finally, with Phidrums there’s no limit on what you can get from your snare drum.

ALUMINIUM LUGS INCORPORATED ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE SHELL

Inside the drum there are no obstacles since the borings and screws holding the lugs are contained in the crown on the outside of the drum. In this way the sound waves from the lugs are absorbed by the wood, thus producing an extraordinarily pure and unique sound, with no disturbing resonances or metallic auras.

THE SHELL IS CYLINDRICAL ONLY ON THE INSIDE
The inside surface of the shell is cylindrical and smooth to allow the air to move freely without coming into contact with the screws holding the lugs and tension rods. In this way the air can follow its natural path, meeting no obstacles or interference from metal components, thus producing an always perfect sound.

INCREASE IN SHELL THICKNESS ONLY ON THE OUTSIDE

As is known, the thickness of the shell influences the sound of snare drums by acting on the combination of the “basic” sound (the fundamental) and the sounds connected with it (the harmonics). Very thick shells have good volume, sensitivity and tone control, but they compress the sound and limit the harmonics. On the contrary, thin shells produce many harmonics but have less volume, sensitivity and tone control. The Phidrums shell is thicker, but only on the outside: this allows maximum exploitation of the best of both thick and thin shells and at the same time eliminates their defects.

ONLY TEN STAVES OF SELECTED WOOD

The Phidrums snare is the first to be built with such a small number of staves, all taken from the same piece of wood: a choice that increases the elasticity of the shell and allows the wood to transmit all the vibrations induced by the skins, thus offering the high quality that comes from the essentiality of its construction, which is close to the original concept of the drum.

SNARE STRAINER WITH NO SPRINGS OR SCREWS

Compared to other snare drums, which usually differ only in design, the Phidrums snare strainer has no springs or screws. Protected by an applied-for patent, its exclusive horizontally pivoted system with a self-blocking lever allows rotation on its horizontal axis and arrangement in line with the straining axis, thus making tensing and releasing extremely fluid, smooth and silent. Made of a fusion of German silver, it brings together the hardness of steel and the silence of aluminum.

AS MANY AS SIX RADIAL AIR VENTS

The six radial air vents favor a uniform escape of air towards the bottom of the drum and avoid its compression, all to the advantage of the evenness of the sound.

Phidrums are the result of long studies and accurate testing which have led to this revolutionary system of construction protected by the patenting procedure. Phidrums snares are put together using staves of carefully selected solid wood: maple, mahogany, cherry, zebrawood, padauk and ovangkol. Each drum comes from a single piece of wood so that all the staves have the same acoustic and esthetic characteristics. Staves are cut, glued and finished all by hand.
